Always on the lookout for mindfully crafted small-batch foods, they also curate them into beautiful gift boxes. Narrative Food’s mission is to support small-scale makers, and increase their impact by giving back to nonprofits who are also working to change the world. We recently asked Jennifer Piette, Founder of Narrative Food, to share her company’s B Corp story, and this is what she had to say.
Why was B Corp Certification important for you?
B Corp Certification makes it possible to run a business based on positive social and environmental impact, rather than a model that exploits people and planet in the pursuit of profits.
What did you learn from the recertification process?
We were very excited to learn that our impact and business model have hugely improved since our last certification!
How did your company change through the certification process?
We have been certified for a decade now — since not long after we started operating, so it’s hard to reflect back to our early uncertified days! That said, the certification process has been an amazing framework to challenge us to continually improve over the years.
In your own words, what does it mean to be a B Corp?
To me, it means our success can be measured by our social and environmental impact, rather than simply measuring profits which could easily come from externalizing costs to society and the environment. It also means being in community with an amazing array of companies and founders who are all mission-aligned.
What advice would you give to others considering certification?
You can do it!!
