Ecodeo is a video firm focused on connecting audiences to climate solutions. We recently asked Liz Rubin, founder and CEO of Ecodeo, to share her company’s B Corp story, and this is what she had to say.
Why was B Corp Certification important for you?
B Corp Certification is critical to the foundation of our company and in all decisions we make around running it. Hard to sum up in words, but we share the same values that we are measured on in the certification process. I know I’m with like-minded, conscious leaders when I meet other B Corps so there is an implicit trust there.
What did you learn from the certification process?
I learned about how much more we can do to help our community, and how more steps toward community impact matter as a small business. I learned more about the inner workings of our company including some data I might not have been aware of before.
How did your company change through the certification process?
We grew more proud of our score, but we charge fair rates so we can pay our team fair wages and it solidifies us squarely in a community of other companies that share our values. We are not just any video firm, but a B Corp firm, committed to the values behind the B.
In your own words, what does it mean to be a B Corp?
It means we hold ourselves to a high standard for people and the planet, which can mean sometimes not choosing A over B in decision-making. It means a lot to be certified, I’m proud to run a conscious, committed business alongside other B Corp peers who I know and trust share my values.
What advice would you give to others considering certification?
Be patient, it’s worth it and essential for the longevity of your business.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
Carolina and Cultivating Capital are the best. Thanks for this opportunity, Carolina!
